Jardin del Cactus (Cactus Garden) Situated in Guatiza, 11 miles/17km north of Arrecife, this is a wonderful piece of landscaping and home to over 10,000 cacti of 1,450 different species growing in beds of various levels. This area is also the heart of the cochineal industry for Lanzarote. The cochineal beetle is abundant here and is collected from the 100's of acres of prickly pear planted in this area. A working windmill still operates here, grinding a locally grown cereal. Open summer months: daily, 10.00hrs - 19.00hrs Open winter months: daily, 10.00hrs - 18.00hrs back
