Crime is not a big problem in Lanzarote. However, you should still take every sensible and available precaution to protect your property as you would here in the UK. Use the safe in the apartment for valuables. Be aware of your own personal safety and keep handbags zipped up and close to you at all times. Cars should be kept locked and valuables should be taken with you. Currency Lanzarote is a Spanish Island, the currency is the Euro. Customs Outbound: Although you can take an unlimited quantity of alcohol and tobacco into Lanzarote, it is false economy to do so as it is all so very cheap once you are out there. Inbound: Customs regulations are in force when bringing goods back into the UK. The regulations, per person over the age of 17 years, currently are: - 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 250g tobacco or 50 cigars 1 litre of spirits over 22% proof or 2 litres of fortified or 2 litres of spirits under 200% or sparkling wine plus 2 litre of still wine 60cc perfume or 250cc toilet water £145 worth of other goods, including gifts No more than 50 litres of beer No more than 25 cigarette lighters.
